Quora: The social media trend or disaster?
Wednesday, 16 February 2011

Social media is big, in fact it is huge and it is expanding and developing on different platforms. The newest addition worth paying attention to is Quora. Quora is a kind of Q&A based social media platform which has been getting a lot of attention since the beginning of 2011. Due to the overload of new users on Quora there has been bad press that, unlike affiliate marketing software, Quora can’t handle the load.

There have also been question marks whether Quora will be able to keep up with quality answers. The actual users of Quora provide the answers to the questions also asked by the users. With the flood of new users quality answers might get lost in the multitude of lesser answers or the answers from actual experts. This means that the Quora’s reputation will fall from its rising peak and high profile reputable companies will stop using the new social media platform.

There is the potential for Quora to be the next big hit, although it is doubted that it will ever reach the likes of Twitter and Facebook. Rumours have also been very faulty when referring to Quora as the next Twitter. Only people unfamiliar with the Twitter interface will state that there these social media platforms are alike. Functionality is different and where Twitter is all about freedom of speech, Quora focuses more on fact and calculated opinion. You can almost think of Quora as a mixture between Wikipedia and Twitter. Where online affiliate marketing is a lasting trend, Quora might fade away. However, although there is room for improvement on Quora, there is definitely a social media thirst which seems to be insatiable.
